Steel Frame, Eastbourne
We were appointed to deliver the structural steel package for the refurbishment of a four-storey building in Eastbourne, incorporating the addition of two new floors. The works formed part of a significant redevelopment, with a total package value of approximately £180k delivered over a 12-month period in multiple phases.
To support the vertical extension, new structural columns were installed at each level to strengthen the existing building and transfer loads from the new steel frame. The package also included the installation of a lift shaft and stair core, requiring careful coordination to integrate new structural elements within the retained fabric of the building.
Due to the height and constrained nature of the site, a self-erecting AT4 mobile tower crane was utilised to facilitate safe and efficient lifting operations. Works were sequenced in line with the wider refurbishment programme to ensure continuity of progress across all phases.
Through structured detailing, phased fabrication and coordinated installation, the steel frame was successfully integrated into the existing structure, supporting the delivery of a substantial vertical extension within programme.
